Acer were the very first manufacturer to announce and release the first, highly anticipated Ion-Based nettop with their Aspire Revo nettop.
Now they seem set to be first first company to released the first Android Based Netbook!
The Google Android operating system has recently gained a lot of attention over the past months, with many manufacturers clearly giving it a lot of attention.
Jim Wong, Acer’s president for IT product announced that Acer will launched an Android netbook in the third quarter of this year. He also said that the Android netbooks will still use an Intel Atom CPU, and they will continue to sell Windows based netbooks along side.
This should lead to slightly cheaper netbooks, as the Android OS does not require the $25 fee that Microsoft require. The Android operating system was originally designed for smartphones, so we hope it can be adapted nicely for more full on netbook usage.
