Acer have just announced the Acer Aspire One 532G netbook with Ion 2, Atom N450 and Optimus switching technology!
The Aspire One 532G has been announced and shown off at the Mobile World Congress 2010 which is is making a very big splash. This is probably the biggest development of this year in the netbook world.
It is a big deal as it is the first netbook to feature the “Next Generation Ion” graphics, we will calling it Ion 2 for now, along with the new Intel Atom N450 (Pine Trail) processor.
As the Intel Atom N450 CPU features inbuilt graphics (GMA 3150), adding the Ion 2 gives the Acer Aspire One 532G two graphics cards. This is very interesting, as previous we had two classes of netbooks, one with low power graphics, and long battery life, or one with high power graphics, and short battery life.

Acer are using the new Nvidia Optimus intelligent video switching technology. It automatically switches to the high power Ion graphics when they are needed, such as playing a 1080p HD video, and to seamlessly back to the low powered graphics when it’s not needed. This gives the Acer 532G the best of both worlds, high performance graphics, and also long battery life in one netbook!

The Acer AO532H also features a HDMI (along with a VGA) output allowing connection to a HDTV. The Ion graphics are powerful enough to playback 1080p HD videos and games. Battery life is quoted as 10 hours, but we would imagine this is when using mostly the GMA 3150 graphics.
The Acer Aspire One 532G is certainly a game changer, offering great graphics, and long battery life with the Optimus technology.
