A very exciting time for nettop / netbook fans. Acer have just announced the Acer Aspire Revo nettop, the first nettop to feature Nvidia’s much anticipated Ion technology.
We reported on the rumors of this netbook, when it was called the Hornet.
Nvidia Ion based nettops such as the Acer AspireRevo have been much anticipated as Ion’s graphics are 5-10 times faster than typical integrated graphics. This means the Acer Aspire Revo can easily handle full hd / 1080p video decoding and playback without even breaking a sweat.
The AspireRevo features both HDMI and VGA video outputs, making it perfect for connecting to an HDTV for use as a HTPC / media center.
The Acer AspireRevo nettop features a 1.6GHz Intel Atom 230 CPU, upto 4GB of DDR2 RAM, upto 250GB HDD, gigabit Ethernet, 6x USB 2.0 inputs, a 4-in-1 card reader, and Windows Vista Home Premium / Basic.
The whole black and white unit measures just 7.1- x 7.1- x 1.2-inches, and can be mounted to the back of your LCD monitor or HDTV.
The Acer AspireRevo is powerful enough to playback 1080p HD video, blu-ray (via an external USB blu-ray drive), and even play popular games such as Spore and Call of Duty 4.
I am very excited about the Acer AspireRevo, as it’s the perfect HTPC / media center, with HDMI, 1080p HD, small unit and quiet.
No price or release date has been given, but we are expecting late Q2 this year.
