Netbooks powered by Nvidia’s second generation Ion graphics platform could arrive even sooner than first expected. Acer has reportedly placed a large order for the latest Nvidia Ion 2 chips, which will be paired with the latest Atom Pineview processors.
Netbooks with the current Ion graphics are in high demand, and the second generation will push the speed to 2x than of the original.

Not only will it be twice as fast, as the next generation Pineview CPU features an integrated memory controller the Ion 2 will perform much more like a discrete GPU (graphical processing unit) than the current model.
There have also been reports of the Ion 2 supporting switching graphics, which can provide both high performance graphics and also power saving features.
Hopefully we will be an Ion 2 powered Acer netbook at this coming CES in January!
