Asus Eee PC

asus 900axThere have been many new Asus Eee PCs discovered over the last few days and the Asus Eee PC 900AX is one of the strangest yet.

The Asus Eee PC 900AX has both shown up at the FCC and also appeared in an official Asus spreadsheet revealing its existence.

From the model name, the Asus 900AX seems to be an new model from the Eee PC 900 range. This would indicate that it is an 8.9-inch netbook.

The first Eee PCs on the market had small displays, and over time have grown to 10.1-inches being the standard, and 12-inch models on the larger side. So it is very strange to see a relatively small 8.9-inch netbook coming our way.
Maybe Asus want to provide an updated “small” netbook to the market which some users still prefer, or the Asus 900AX isn’t destined for the US or Europe.

Judging from the Asus spreadsheet it looks like the Asus Eee PC 900AX will be available with Windows XP and Linux operating systems.

Update: The 8.9-inch Asus Eee PC 900AX has been confirmed as is official.  It has also been revealed that the small low cost netbook hasn’t received a facelift and still retains its classic design.  While the external remains the same, the internal hardware has been updated to make use of the latest generation hardware.

While it is confirmed that the Asus 900AX is a new 9-inch netbook, it is still unknown when or where it will become available.

The whole idea of netbooks was greater portability and lower cost. The ever increasing size and cost is undermining their very purpose. There still is a market for smaller devices. Just not as much profit. Kudos to Asus for realizing this.
