The new Asus Eee Box EB1501U has just been announced at CeBIT. The Eee Box nettop looks exactly the same as the EB1501 model which it replaces, and it essentially is, but with USB 3.0 ports instead.
The EB1501 made big news in the netbook / nettop market when it was announced as the first nettop featuring a DVD drive which could be mounted to the back of your monitor or HDTV.
This new Eee Box EB1501U has the same external design and internal hardware as the previous model, but it now has 2x USB 3.0 ports at the front, with one e-SATA and 4x USB 2.0 ports at the back.
With the bucket load of “Next Generation Ion” hardware coming our way recently, we’re surprised the Asus 1501U isn’t one of them. Instead it features the original Nvidia Ion graphics, with 2GB of RAM, the Intel Atom 330 dual core processor, a 250GB / 320GB hard drive, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, VGA and HDMI output.
The Asus 1501U is ideal for use as a media center as it’s very small, quiet and can playback 1080p HD videos and output them over HDMI.
It will come with Windows 7 Home Premium. No price or release date are currently known. Via NotebookItalia
Asus have also updated their EB1012 nettop by adding USB 3.0 support to two of it’s USB ports, it’s known as the Asus Eee Box 1012U.
