Asus Eee Box EB1501There are a number of nettops on the market today, and a fair few Eee Box nettops also.

But we have to admit, the new Asus Eee Box EB1501 seems to be the most impressive to date, and has certainly caught our attention.

What makes the Asus EB1501 different from the other Eee Box netbooks, is it’s internal optical drive, a slot-loading DVD burner. Asus are calling the Eee Box 1501 the world’s smallest, and first VESA-mountable PC with an internal optical drive.

As well as featuring a DVD burner the Asus 1501 is also quite powerful, with a Dual Core Intel Atom N330 1.6GHz CPU, and more importantly, Nvidia Ion graphics. The Ion graphics make the Asus Eee Box EB1501 easily powerful enough to decode and playback 1080p HD content.

It comes with 2GB of DDR2 RAM (max 4GB) a 250GB SATA hard drive, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, 1000Mbit LAN, 6x USB 2.0, HDMI, eSATA and a 5-in-1 card reader. It also comes with Windows 7 Home Premium operating system

It measures just 193×193x39mm and weights 1.2kg, and can be easily mounted to the back of your LCD monitor or HDTV.

The Asus Eee Box EB1501 should make a great little media center / HTPC as it features Ion graphics, and HDMI output.

I will be attending an Asus press meeting in London next week, where I can hopefully take a few more photos of the Eee Box EB1501, and find out some more information.

Update: The Asus Eee Box EB1501 is now available in the UK from Play.Com for £339 in both black and white color options!
