Asus have announced their latest Eee PC netbook, the Asus Eee PC 1001PX to the market.
While we’re a big fan of Asus’ seashell design netbooks, we do hate the all over gloss than many feature, which quickly turn into fingerprint magnets, which clearly don’t look quiet as nice.
We were pleased to see the latest version of the 1005PE announced, the 100PE-PU27 which has a non gloss, soft touch lid. Asus have now taken this even further with the Asus Eee PC 1001PX, which has a non gloss carbon fiber-like finish and matte screen.
Most Eee PCs have a glossy screen, which can be hard to use outside, so the Asus 1001PX with its matte display and non gloss lid is a real winner.

The 1001PX with its carbon fiber finish will be available in Black, White and Blue color options.
The Asus 1001PX is also very well priced at just $259 with Windows 7 Starter edition. An amazing price for a modern, great looking netbook.
Update: The Asus Eee PC 1001PX is now available from Amazon for just $259! with Windows 7.
We are also hearing that there will be a version of this netbook with built in 3G / 4G wireless broadband access called the Asus Eee PC 1001PG. Via NotebookItalia

I see tht the wireless is b/g only, and not b/g/n. How will that affect watching videos on websites or youtube?
Thank you.

Internet videos including YouTube HD videos won’t be effected by the b/g speeds (54 Mbit/s)

Speed wise, you will be fine as Matt points out.
The other advantage of draft-n is range but generally speaking, within the usual home, you should be fine.

If compared Asus 1001PX with 1001P and Samsung N150 what is better to choose?
Thank you.

I have bought one of this in Germany, I can only say i am VERY sattisfied with it. No fingeprints, no scratches, no mirror-like screen. the wifi is in fact bgn, which pleases me a lot as N is waaaay better. I had opportunity to compare it with the samsung and lenovo options and for sure asus suited me best. Another good point is the keyboard, even thou its a 10″ the keyboard has space,no tiny keys…
Only thing you should do when you buy one of these is to reinstall windows. I dont understand why companies insist to sell you a computer loaded with crappy softwares…

The “crappy softwares” that come pre-installed help to keep prices down, as most companies pay llptop/PC manufacturers to pre-install demos and “lite” versions of their products.
Invariably, laptops/PCs without pre-installed software on them are either more expensive, or lower spec, at a similar price point to something with “crappy softwares” installed.
When you realise that, the time it takes to uninstall a few programs, or do a fresh Windows install is not all that bad a deal really.

Use completely free, reliable, virtually virus-free, extensive range of applications available in Linux – Ubuntu for instance. Virtually compatible with most Microsoft Documents (although Microsoft can’t provide compatiblity the other way!)
Would not cost anything to load onto machine as far as I know.

I bought one about 5 months later and I love it. It was really cheap, only 200 euros. I like the carbon look, no glossy screen and big keyboard.

There’s a small program I like when installing a fresh computer its PC Decrapifier, this tiny little program will take off any crappy softwares installed by the manufacturer, you can choose which ones you want to keep and the ones you don’t want and bam, software will take the ones you don’t like to the trash…

I am interested in buying ASUS EEE PC 1001PX-WHI009S White with the 6 Cell battery. Does the battery make it thicker on the back, making the netbook be “inclined” or does it look pretty much like the ones in the picture?
thank you

Didn’t see any difference of thickness, maybe just a little bit thicker, but not really obvious.

hmm.. you bring out some useful tips. Thank you for your unique take on this matter.

With Windows its fairly sluggish but most computers running Windows registry get clogged, so I installed Linux ubuntu and its now faster than grease lightning

Obtained one at newegg.com for 201.00 w/o an operating system. Used the unetbootin (open source) program to create an Ubuntu 10.04 netbook remix install and everything is working pretty much right out of the box. An outstanding and very capable little machine! Useful if you are a developer and need a full fledged OS rather than one of those fanbois fondle-slabs that are so chic today.
