Even though CeBIT in Hanover doesn’t officially kick off until tomorrow, a number of impressive netbooks have already appeared.
The most impressive of all is the all aluminum chassis Asus Eee PC 1018P. This new netbook sits at the top of the Eee PC ranks and as such has the “Eee PC Prime” logo at the top left of the screen.
If when you think of netbooks you think cheap and plastic, think again! The Asus 1018P and the 1016P have brought the biggest change in netbook design since the introduction of the “Seashell” design last year. These aluminum Eee PCs are like no Eee PCs before.
One of the biggest complains of previous models has been the fingerprint magnet glossy designs. Not with this model, which is all matte.
The Asus 1018P looks amazing, and very thin at just 0.71-inches thick.
It has a 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 pixel display, and comes with the Intel Atom N455 (1.66GHz) or the Atom N475 (1.83GHz) processor, which support DDR3.
Update: It’s now available! Buy now from Amazon for $528!
Other specifications of the Asus Eee PC 1018P include 1GB of RAM, 160GB / 250GB hard drive, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, a 6.5 hour 44wh battery, fingerprint reader and large trackpad. 3G is also listed, but is probably optional. Via NotebookItalia
Asus 1018P Hands on
Thanks for Sascha from netbooknews we also have a quick video hands on of the Asus 1018P. He says the netbook feels like no other Eee PC before, it’s very strong and very light with a great keyboard.

I would really like to know when the release date will be myself. I really haven’t seen any news on these netbooks since early march

Hi Kate, Is there a software to make calls or test using the 3G Modem/SIM Card Slot hidden in the battery slot?

I have one. Got it yesterday at bestbuy. VERY NICE!!!

Hey Scott, Does this have a functional SIM Card Slot? Is this the one with Fingerprint Scanner? The images on this review page are contradictory! I see a Fingerprint Scanner on Image 1 “Asus 1018P” and it is missing on Image 3 “Asus Eee PC 1018P”!

Why, oh why!?
Only 1gb ram???
No 1366×768 diplay!? Or at least 1280×800!
DVI or HDMI support?
And, where the hell is one with the atom d525 cpu? I want power when I need it, I can switch off one core when I don’t need it.
Come on, ASUS, you can do much better!

If you want those features Mike, I think you will have to take a look at a larger 12-inch netbook such as the 1215N.
That comes with 2GB DDR3 RAM, 12.1-inch 1366×768 LCD, and Atom D525.
