I’m sure you know by now that the 12.1-inch Asus Eee PC had draw more than it’s fair share of attention and has caused a massive buzz in the netbook industry. The 12.1-inch Asus 1201N is the first Nvidia Ion powered netbook to be released by Asus, the creator of the netbook, and also the very first netbook to combine the Ion chipset and dual core Atom CPU.

While I would love to offer you my own review of the Asus 1201N, I have yet to received my unit. But many other people have been lucky enough to get their hands on the highly anticipated netbook, and have put it though it’s paces.

As the Asus Eee PC 1201N has a dual core CPU it offers higher performance than most netbook, especially when it comes to multi tasking, while the Nvidia Ion graphics provides it with more power than a CULV, and enough power to playback 1080p HD video and can play many modern games. This extra power from the dual core CPU and graphics does put more demand on the 6-cell battery, so it won’t last as long as some other netbooks. Pierre from Blogee managed to get just 4 hours 43 during surfing on youtube and other sites, with screen brightness at 100% and power settings set to High Performance.

In HotHardware’s Asus 1201N Review they gave it their Editors choice award and said considering that the Mini 311 is currently selling for around $530, the $499.99 retail price on the Asus Eee PC 1201N seems all the more attractive. If you don’t want to spring for a CULV thin-and-light, this is the netbook to buy.

LaptopMag gave it four out of five, and said it stayed cool throughout testing, and during a HD video stream it never exceed 83 degrees, with the bottom of the netbook chilled at a pleasant 87 degrees. They also said, the ASUS Eee PC 1201N is without a doubt, the fastest netbook we have ever tested. It also has a good keyboard, attractive design, and strong multimedia performance. It’s the most powerful netbook, and one that is legitimately capable of playing HD video and games like World of Warcraft, the ASUS 1201N is the best choice.
