At Computex a new prototype Asus Eee PC Smartbook has been spotted and videoed showing off it’s stuff.
The new Asus “Smartbook”, not netbook, looks very similar to modern netbooks but has a number of differences and advantages over a classic netbook.
The Asus Eee PC Smartbook prototype is based on the new 1GHz Snapdragon chipset, and runs Android operating system. The Snapdragon smartbook chipset is so energy efficient and uses such low power consumption, it is completely fanless! This results in fantastic battery life, and a totally silent system. If used in conjunction with a SSD, the smartbook would have no moving parts at all.

The Asus model shown has a great slim design with all the usual ports, and no air vents what so ever. The 1GHz version shown can playback 720p HD videos without a problem, and future versions will be able to support Full 1080p HD decoding and encoding.
We have already seen more powerful Snapdragon chipsets clocked at 1.3GHz with enhanced graphics, and also a 1.5GHz dual core CPU.
Whether this is the end of netbooks, im not sure, but I’m sure we will be seeing many more Smartbooks coming our way. Via TweakTown
