Not much to go on just yet, but this should definitely be interesting / exciting. Alienware, who are better known for producing highend gaming desktops / laptops have just announced the Alienware M11X 11.6-inch netbook!

The Alienware M11X netbook features an 11.6-inch LCD, Nvidia GT335M switchable graphics and a rumored battery life of 6.5 hours. The battery life does drop down to “over 2 hours” in gaming mode though.

It seems that everyone is getting in on the netbook market now days. It should be interesting to see, because Alienware’s current laptop lineup, are, not exactly super mobile.

Alienware M11X

I very much like the sound of switachable graphics, giving the best of both worlds, battery life, and long run time.

The M11X (depending on the CPU) looks set to be a great gaming netbook and the GT335M graphics are powerful.

The Alienware M11X is expected to ship this Spring for less than $1,000. We will update this are more information comes in. Via Engadget.

Update: Alienware are calling the M11X  “most powerful Sub 12″ gaming laptop in the universe.”, and say it’s much more than a netbook.

Also, from looking at the side, we can see that it has VGA and HDMI outputs, along with USB, Ethernet, and ExpressCard slot.

Update 2: Alienware have announced the price of the M11X, saying it will start at $799, and weigh under 4.5 lbs.

While the M11x looks perfect for hard core gamers who want to game on the move, for the average user, a standard netbook, or Ion powered netbook would probably be more suitable.  Looking at the netbook comparison page, you will see most netbooks weigh much less at around 2.7 lbs – 32. lbs.
