The Intel Atom CPU is currently the preferred choice for netbook manufacturers, with the 1.6Ghz clock speeds being the more popular.

Intel have just announced the Intel Atom Z550 CPU with a faster 2.0GHz clock speed and the Atom Z515 with dynamic clock speed ranging from 800MHz to 1.33GHz to adjust for your processing power needs at the time.

The Intel Z550 has the fastest clock speed of any Atom to date, bringing ever more powerful netbooks, while still only using 2.2 watts or less of power. This means netbooks will be faster, but won’t last any shorter.

The Intel Atom Z550 can be used with the Intel US15W system-on-chip, to support upto 2GB of RAM, and features the GMA500 graphics core, which supports supports H.264, MPEG 2, MPEG 4, VC1 and WMV9 decoding for 720p HD image processing.

There is already rumors of Sony releasing a faster Sony P series (Vaio) with the Atom Z550.
