When Lenovo announced the Lenovo S12 netbook, it was the first Nvidia Ion powered netbook to be announced. Since then Samsung have announced their N510 Ion netbook, which seemed set to beat the S12 out of the starting gates.

But today, but Lenovo and Samsung have said that they plan on delaying the release of their Ion powered netbook until the release of Windows 7.

Lenovo said that they fell that the “experience of Windows 7 on the S12 would make it more compelling than the Vista version it was originally planning to sell.”

We guess this makes sense, but personally I would rather get my hands on these netbooks, and then later use the free upgrade to Windows 7. But of course, maybe people might not be comfortable in upgrading their operating system.

Windows 7 isn’t due to release until October 22nd, so we will still have to wait a while.

Regarding the Samsung N510. The details are still not 100% clear on the N510, and have read that in the U.S it was going to feature Vista, and in Europe it would feature XP. So either both markets have been delayed, or just the U.S market.

So who will be the first to release the first Ion netbook, Samsung or Lenovo? Only time will tell!
