YouTube has launched “Feather” and ultra light version of it’s YouTube watch pages. It has been specially designed for use where bandwidth or computer processing power is at a minimum.
If you have a netbook which suffers during playback of YouTube videos, this new YouTube Feather version should hopefully help.
Netbooks with lower resolution will better display the pages as related videos, comments and other features are kept to a minimum, allowing the video more room. The default setting for all videos played is set to standard quality.
While not all netbooks will need this, especially with the upcoming Flash 10.1 software which feature hardware decoding, I can also see this being useful for mobile Internet use, as users wish to keep their bandwidth and data use to a bare minimum.
YouTube hopes this helps to make watching YouTube faster and easier on netbooks, older computers and low bandwith connections.
