The Ion powered 11.6-inch Samsung N510 netbook has been the single netbook which has caught and held my attention for the longest time.
Since photos and specifications of the N510 were first leaked, I have been following it’s progress from it’s first official announcement, to a hands on, and now to a first review.
At the time of this review, the Samsung N510 is available in the UK and Europe, and is now available in the US with Windows 7 Home Premium.
The N510 is one of the first few netbooks to features the Nvidia Ion LE graphics / chipset, along with the HP Mini 311, giving it powerful graphics performance and 1080p HD playback. Along with the Ion LE, it also features an 11.6-inch LCD with a 1366 x 768 resolution, Intel Atom N280 CPU, 1GB RAM and a 160GB hard drive.
PCPro have reviewed the UK edition of the Samsung N510 and were overall very impressed with it, giving it a five out of six star rating. They give praise to it’s keyboard and over all design and build, and like the mat finished LCD display, which keeps away annoying reflections.

Samsung N510
Even though the N510 has much more powerful graphics than most netbooks, it still provides very good battery life, providing 6 hours 30 mins of light every day use, and dropping to 3 hours 45 mins during more intensive use, such as gaming and HD playback.
The final hurdle is that of battery life, and even here the N510 triumphs, achieving 6hrs 30mins in our light-use test. It might not be up the N110′s lofty standards, but even though it dwindles to 3hrs 44mins under intense use, it’s more than enough for all but the longest of jaunts away from home.
With it’s HDMI output and Ion graphics providing 1080p playback and game support, they finish the review by saying, the Samsung N510 is a netbook that will entertain you as no other will.
The Samsung N510 is currently available in the UK from Amazon UK for £381 with free delivery!
