Samsung have announced the Samsung X125 11.6-inch notebook, the latest, third generation model in their X series range.
So far it has only been announced in Europe and is already up for pre-order in the UK for £449, with a release date of August 7th.
The Samsung X125 is based on the latest AMD Nile hardware and is powered by the “thin and light” AMD Athlon II Neo K125 1.7GHz processor. It has a nice design with rounded edges, is very thin at just 24.5mm and weighs 1.50kg.
It also features ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics so it will have plenty of power for some gaming and HD video playback. The 11.6-inch LCD has a HD 1366 x 768 resolution with a gloss finish.
The X125′s other specifications are also good with 3GB of DDR2 RAM (two slots), a 320GB hard drive, Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, high speed Bluetooth 3.0, VGA & HDMI output, 3x USB 2.0, a multi card reader, 3w stereo speakers, and a high sensitivity webcam.
Samsung also say that the X125 has a special “Super Silent” mode for silent operation. You can choose from silent, normal and speed modes with a simple keyboard command.
It features a 6-cell battery and comes with Windows 7 Home Premium.

I received my x125 – very nice machine. Spec said 3GB DDR3 (2GB + 1GB SODIMM) Thought I would replace the 1GB stick with a spare 2GB stick. Oh! There was only 1 slot in the memory bay and it had a 1GB stick in it! Where is the othe 2GB? Dunno. Neither does the computer for that matter – it reports only 1GB installed.
The 320GB HD – well Explorer shows 270GB – now I know some of the “missing” space will be for a host / recovery image, but surely not 50GB!!
Reported to Samsung today, will see what they come back with.
It is a lovely machine though. Just the right size screen – 11.6″.

In addition to the above, Samsung website says 3GB & 320GB, Amazon says the same, the label on the Samsung box says the same….. Computer says different.

I feel a tad foolish in that i must have miss read a value on the screen. I was advised by the tech support to view the bios and that the other 2gb is stashed under the keyboard. I found this correct. Oops! As for the missing space of hard drive it looks like 20gb is reserved for the ghost image.
Overall, I’m pleased with the x125 and would happily buy another unit.
